BMW's F 800 GS has found itself on the front line in London's war on terror, with the adventure bike model to transport two crack anti-terror police officers to incidents as they unfold.
London's Metropolitan Police has just added a further 600 'Counter Terrorism Specialist Firearms Officers' to its ranks to address what it sees as a "severe" and ongoing terror threat.
The bolstered force comes in the wake of the Nice attack, when a truck driver used his vehicle to kill 85 and injure 307 in the French city. The driver was believed to be motivated by radical fundamentalist Islamic group, ISIL.
Unveiled under the banner of Operation Hercules, the heavily armed officers will be deployed in highly visible roles around the British capital and will carry everything from handguns to sniper rifles, tasers and fully automatic weapons.
In the event of a terrorist action, the BMWs will be used to carry officers two-up to incidents in rapid order, the bikes allowing them to cut through London's heavily congested streets.
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said the threat of terrorism shouldn't be underestimated.
"The safety and security of all Londoners is my first priority, and our police and security services are working incredibly hard every day on our behalf," he said.
"?The threat level here in London has not changed, but it does remain at severe and especially in light of recent deadly attacks in Europe it is important we are prepared should the unthinkable happen."
