Big brother gone mad?

Surveillance cams on the agenda

The Federal Government is reported to have given the green light to a $2.3 million feasibility study of new surveillance camera technology, ostensibly to combat the activities of "bikie gangs".

Adelaide Now says this is part of a string of proposals which include:

  • Banning the wearing of club patches;

  • Banning outlaw club membership;

  • Restricting the number of members who can gather in one place;

  • 24/7 monitoring of some members.

Though hardly a supporter of the activities of such gangs, Bikepoint worries that the powers will be all too readily turned on any person or group that happens to be out of favour with the government of the day. See our editorial this week.
