Beta is preparing to add a 250cc four-stroke to its motocross line-up, with a prototype making its competitive debut recently.
With a 450cc four-stroke, a 350cc two-stroke and a 250cc two-stroke already in the range, the new Beta RX 250 4T is expected to broaden the brand’s appeal.
The prototype lined up at the Italian Motocross International Championship round at Mantova, piloted by an official Beta test rider.
Following months of “intensive development” and “countless testing sessions”, its appearance at Mantova marks what Beta describes as an “advanced stage” of the project.
Powered by an all-new 250cc four-stroke engine developed and designed “from the ground up” at Beta’s headquarters in Rignano sull’Arno, Italy, the RX 250 4T is likely to be announced as a production model in the coming months.
According to Beta, the new engine features a timing chain on the right-hand side, differing from the 450cc equivalent—a detail the company says underscores its “clean-sheet approach”.
A new chassis also debuts on the prototype, featuring revised side engine mounting points aimed at improving dynamic behaviour and enhancing rider feedback.
Other notable features include an electric start system, a dedicated cooling circuit, redesigned lubrication, and a new oil pump with revised oil filter placement.
