Fans of desert racing ace Ben ‘Grabbo’ Grabham can now follow his recovery in the aftermath of his high-speed Condo 750 crash, with KTM Australia posting another clip on its YouTube channel focussing on the racer's accident, injuries, surgery and subsequent rehabilitation.
It's the second of a three-part series that will document Grabham's return to health and racing, providing a rare insight into the lengths these athletes go to in the pursuit of their goals.
We pick up the story and outline the surgery required to stabilise Grabbo’s injuries. We speak with the surgeons in detail about the procedures and also delve into Grabbo’s fears of spinal surgery.
Grabham was contesting the 2012 Condo 750, held near the central-western NSW town of Condobolin on April 6-8, when he struck a mob of kangaroos on his KTM at around 150km/h. The resulting spill saw him sustain a serious spinal injury, plus a number of other minor injuries.
