Beefed-up 2021 KTM 890 Adventure arriving soon

The all-new KTM 890 Adventure R is on its way to Australia, with a local launch set to take place in the coming weeks.

Unveiled last October, the new machine is based on KTM’s 890 Duke platform which was debuted at EICMA in 2019. It follows a similar path to the KTM 790 Adventure R, which won the 2019 bikesales Bike of the Year award.

Many elements from the 790 Adventure R carry over to the new 890 Adventure R, but the new beefed-up engine sees an increase in horsepower and torque to 105hp at 8000rpm and 100Nm at 6500rpm respectively.

The new Euro-5 compliant engine features 20% more rotating mass, with the powerplant offering an overall more stable and consistent output, and better low-RPM torque. The improved configuration also helps with cornering stability. Elsewhere, there is fully-adjustable WP Xplor suspension and an overhauled electronics package including cruise control.

KTM also announced an 890 Adventure R Rally, which packs better suspension, an Akrapovic silencer, and a special ‘Rally’ mode as standard. Numbers for the special Rally version were extremely limited with stock already exhausted.

Sitting alongside its R siblings is the standard KTM 890 Adventure, which offers the same comprehensive package, but with a touch more road-going performance.

The 2021 KTM 890 Adventure R checks in at $24,470 ride away, while the standard KTM 890 Adventure is priced at $22,550 ride away. Both machines are expected to arrive this month. Bikesales will be attending the Australian media launch, so stay tuned for a full review soon.
