The ‘Race of Champions’ at World Ducati Week 2018 – the much-hyped event at Misano that brought past and present Ducati racers such as Aussies Jack Miller and Troy Bayliss together on identical Panigale V4 Ss – has been run and won by Italian Michele Pirro ahead of Tito Rabat and Xavi Fores.
Bayliss finished last in the five-lap race, but he’s clearly turning the tables in the eBay auction of all 12 Panigale V4 Ss that competed in the race – plus a 13th bike that remained in the pits following the withdrawal of world superbike rider Chaz Davies because of injury.
The, which auction closes on Saturday, July 28, has already received hundreds of bids, with Bayliss’ No. 21 Panigale V4 S way out in front with a fan pledging 65,300 Euros ($A103,000).
The next highest bid is for Jorge Lorenzo’s No. 99 Panigale, which comes in at 37,383 Euros ($A59,000).
All the bikes donned similar livery to each rider’s competition motorcycles in the WorldSBK and MotoGP titles, and featured a series of special components. To the successful bidders, they will come with and a complete set of original parts required for legal road use.
For the record, Miller was fourth from Marco Melandri, Michael Rinaldi, Andrea Dovizioso, Xavier Siméon, Danilo Petrucci, Lorenzo, Karel Abraham and Bayliss.
