Bayliss officially a 'legend'

To join Gardner and Doohan at Oz MotoGP

For the first time since the inception of the 'Legends of MotoGP' display at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Aussie hero Troy Bayliss will join Wayne Gardner and Mick Doohan on the grid at Phillip Island next month.

The trio will ride demonstration laps on the weekend of October 17-18.

It's certainly going to be a busy period for Bayliss, who will be racing in the previous weekend's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 as his V8 Supercar career starts to take shape.

Between them, the Aussie legends have nine world championships. Gardner took the 500cc title in 1987, while Doohan won five consecutive 500cc titles from 1994-1998. Bayliss collected three world superbike titles in 2001, 2006 and 2008, and also won the final MotoGP race of 2006 in a brilliant cameo at Valencia.

The three support classes at this year's Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will be historic, superbike and supersport. For the first time ever, superbike and supersport will be fighting for points in the official Australian championship.
