Bayliss amongst greats at Superprestigio

The reigning Australian dirt track champion – and he also did alright on the tarmac – will be amongst the 'who's who' at this Saturday's Superprestigio event in Barcelona
Troy Bayliss has been the best thing to happen to local dirt track racing in a long time, with his eponymous star-grabbing event in Taree already one of the highlights on the local calendar after just two years.
He wins races, too, and not surprisingly the deeds of the 45-year-old have spread internationally, which is why he has been given an invitation to compete in this Saturday’s (December 13) Marc Marquez-supported Superprestigio, which will take place inside Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi arena.
Marquez personally delivered the invitation to Bayliss during this year’s Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island.
Bayliss and Marquez will compete in the Superprestigio class in Barcelona, reserved for riders that take part or have taken part in the FIM Road Racing World Championship (MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3) or other premier international championships held on tarmac racetracks.  Other riders in the class will include Tito Rabat, Toni Elias, Scott Redding, Bradley Smith, Alex Marquez and Australia’s newest grand prix rider, Remy Gardner.
The second class is called Open, and is for riders with experience and achievements in international off-road racing competitions (dirt track, flat track, speedway, supermoto, enduro, motocross, etc). Riders include Brad Baker, Ivan Cervantes and Taddy Blazusiak.
In all, 10 world champions will compete on the night across the two classes, while the 12-lap “Superfinal” is going to be the race to watch as the top finishers of the Superprestigio and Open classes clash. Earlier this year, Baker won the Superfinal from Rabat and Kenny Noyes.
