According to Product Safety Recalls Australia, a divison of the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), on March 1 Suzuki Australia issued a recall notice concerning 16 of its models - 15 road bikes and one quad bike.
The recall relates to the following models produced in 2008 and 2009: GSX-R600 (pictured), GSX-R750, GSF650 (Bandit 650), GSF1250 (Bandit 1250), GSX650F, GSX1300BK (B-King), GSX1300R (Hayabusa), GSR600, VLR1800 (Boulevard C109R), VLR1500, VL800 (Boulevard C50), SFV650 (Gladius), AN400 (Burgman 400), AN250 (Burgman 250), DL1000 (V-Strom 1000), and LT-Z400 (QuadSport Z400).
According to the ACCC, "Some regulator/rectifier assemblies were produced with insufficient adhesion between the power module and the recifier case. Due to the insufficient adhesion, heat generated from the power module can cause it to lift from the case. This condition can cause excessive heat in the module, which can result in insufficient charge being provided to the battery." This can potentially lead to the battery discharging, resulting in an engine stall or an inability to start the motorcycle.
Affected owners should contact their nearest Suzuki dealership to arrange for an inspection and the replacement of the regulator/rectifier.
