Honda Australia has thrown its support behind the 'Pelicans on Posties' charity ride -- an epic adventure that will see a hardy group of friends attempt to ride Honda CT110 postie bikes from Ballina, NSW, to Darwin, NT.
A distance of around 3600km across the Australian outback, it's all in aid of charity. %he 'Pelicans', as they call themselves, hope to raise $100,000 for Ballina's Biala Special School and the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Honda Australia has donated three CT110s to the cause, and after they've been ridden to Darwin two of the three will be auctioned, the proceeds further swelling the funds to be donated. The distributor has also provided t-shirts and caps for the attempt.
The charity ride was officially launched at the Biala Special School recently, at a ceremony opened by the Federal Member for Page, Janelle Saffin. According to Honda's Greg King, the launch underlined the value of the ride's cause.
"I found the official launch very moving; seeing the great kids, carers, parents and teachers from Biala Special School and seeing the appreciation and excitement on their faces was really special," he said.
"Knowing that the monies raised will be shared with The Royal Flying Doctor Service, an organisation that does so much for the people of the outback where these Pelicans are headed, is also really important," he added.
The group will set out on July 7 and hopes to be rolling into Darwin on August 3.
