Suzuki has whipped the covers of a 250cc V-Strom concept bike, using the 2016 China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition to unveil the all-new small-capacity adventure touring model.
With both the small-capacity and the adventure-touring segments of the market experiencing healthy growth in recent times, it makes sense for the Japanese manufacturer to combine the two, following the wheel tracks of the yet-to-be unveiled GS version of BMW's recently introduced G 310 platform.
Though officially dubbed a concept, the V-Strom 250 appears remarkably 'production ready'. Powered by a liquid-cooled, 248cc, SOHC, parallel-twin engine, the baby 'Strom is said to be good for almost 25hp at 8000rpm and 23Nm at 6500rpm.
Its 17-inch cast-alloy wheels put V-Strom 250 more in the touring camp than the adventure camp, while the hard panniers and topbox follow suit.
The 178kg (wet) 'concept' is suspended by a conventional fork at the front and a rear monoshock at the back. It boasts a relatively low seat height of 790mm and its 15-litre fuel tank is said to be good for a range of up to 400km.
Word on the street is the so-called concept will make its production-ready debut at next month's EICMA motorcycle expo in Milan, Italy, which kicks off on Tuesday, November 8.
There's no word if the baby 'Strom has been earmarked for the Aussie market at this early stage – a development, no doubt, dependent on both consumer response and rival offerings.
