The collective Australian motorcycle media is raising a toast this week as Australian Motorcycle News (AMCN) celebrates its 70th anniversary with a bumper 212-page collector’s issue.
First published on June 1, 1951, AMCN was originally known as The Victorian Motorcycle Weekly, before changing to its current name on May 24, 1957.

Founded by George Lynn, AMCN has long been a voice in the motorcycle industry and a source of news and information for motorcyclists around the country. It is claimed to be the oldest surviving motorcycle magazine in the world, and is also Australia’s second-oldest magazine behind The Australian Women’s Weekly (founded in 1933).

AMCN is today considered a competitor to bikesales.com.au, but the titles have actually have a shared history. When internet began to boom, AMCN published content online via bikepoint.com.au, which was eventually merged with bikesales. In addition, many staff members have walked the halls of both outlets over the journey.

The anniversary issue takes a deep dive into the AMCN archives, and also looks at how motorcycling has evolved over the past 70 years.
While we do indeed live in a digital age, there is still nothing quite like picking up a magazine from the newsagents and flicking through it at home with your beverage of choice. And AMCN is still one of the best in the two-wheel business! The anniversary issue hits the stands on July 8, 2021.
