Australian Motorcycle Expo

Make your way to the Gold Coast this weekend

Yamaha will present its pitch on the future of two-wheel commuting when it unveils the EC-f concept scooter at the Australian Motorcycle Expo Gold Coast, to be held from February 19-21.

The electric-powered EC-f, which made its public debut at last year's Tokyo Motor Show amongst the usual throng of cool concept vehicles, is constructed from light weight aluminium, and runs ion a lithium-ion battery, which can be plugged intro a normal socket for recharging. The styling is, well, minimalist.

"The Australian Motorcycle Expo is focused on the new and unique," said Event Manager Mark Petersen. "Along with the hundreds of new motorcycle models on the floor we are lucky to have some special concept machines demonstrating the possibility of technology advancements within the industry.

"The EC-f is an example of a future-proof product - sustainable and low impact. It's not something we will see on our streets any time soon, but the technology and philosophy is certain to be built upon as production models continue to evolve."

Other brands represented at the Gold Coast Motorcycle Expo include BMW Motorrad, BRP, Ducati, Gilera, Harley-Davidson, Honda, Husaberg, Hyosung, Kawasaki, KTM, Kymco, OZ Trikes, Piaggio, Sachs Bikes, SeaDoo, Suzuki, TGB, Triumph, Vespa, Victory Motorcycles and Yamaha Motor and Marine.

The expo, which also hosts the Australian Personal Watercraft Show and the Australian Scooter Festival, will feature all the latest products and services from Australia's leading motorcycle distributors and accessory emporiums, freestyle motocross and PWC displays, streetbike stunts, a massive motorcycle apparel clearance sale, the East Coast Custom Australian Custom Bike Championships, a stage for special guests and presentations, and plenty more to keep all the family entertained.

There are also accessory businesses galore, insurance companies, and options aplenty for motorcycle apparel. You can even lock in you next two-wheel adventure - and finish the day with a Chinese massage.

Last year's event attracted over 22,000 visitors from all over the country.

"It was great to see people from all over the country making their way to the Gold Coast for a great weekend of motorcycle, scooter and PWC entertainment," said Petersen. "As well as providing enthusiasts the chance to check out the newest and most exciting products, it also gives the local area a boost with thousands visiting the region each day."

The Australian Freeride Surf Championship will be held in conjunction with the event, with up to 20 of the world's leading PWC riders doing battle at Main Beach. Winners will be announced in a special presentation on February 20.

The Bikesales Network, which is a support sponsor of the expo, will also be there, so wander over to search for your next bike - new or used - and/or get the latest in motorcycle news from Australia and around the world.

Entry is $18 for adults, $13 for children 5-15yrs, $13 for seniors, and a family (two adults and two children) is $46. Show hours are 10.00am-8.00pm on Friday, 9.00am-7.00pm on Saturday, and 9.00am-5.00pm on Sunday.
