Australia's 2012 MX of Nations team

Lawson Bopping, Luke Styke and Todd Waters to represent Australia in Belgium on September 30 -- but no Chad Reed to fall back on, who remains sidelined with injury

In the absence of regular star turns Chad Reed and Brett Metcalfe – who are both convalescing with injuries – a locally based trio has been selected to represent Australia in the 2012 Motocross of Nations, to be held in Lommel, Belgium on September 29-30.

The selections are all rookies: Lawson Bopping in the MX1 (450cc) class, Luke Styke (pictured) in the MX2 (250cc) class, and Todd Waters in the MX3 (open division).

All three have enjoyed stellar seasons in Australia, with Waters and Bopping currently second and third in the national Mx1 title with one round remaining, while Styke is second in the equivalent Mx2 class.

Ford Dale has been appointed as reserve for the MX1 and MX3 classes, and Josh Cachia as reserve for MX2.

Team Australia made history in France last year when it finished on the podium for the first time, thanks to Reed, Metcalfe and Matt Moss.

America won ahead of France.
