Australia fourth in Trial des Nations

Another solid result for the Aussie quartet, while the women’s team was seventh

The Australian men’s team has finished fourth in the International Trophy (Group B) division of the 2014 Trial des Nations, held in Andorra on September 13-14.

The quartet – Chris Bayles, Tim Coleman, Kyle Middleton and Colin Zarczynski – completed the two-day event on 71pts, to finish behind Germany (33), Sweden (40) and America (53). Australia was equal on points with Ireland but finished fourth on a countback to repeat the team’s 2013 result.

In the top-flight world championship division for men, the result was never in doubt as the all-conquering Spanish team stretched its winning sequence, which now extends back to 2004. And just as amazingly, the same four riders – Toni Bou (pictured), Adam Raga, Albert Cabestany and Jeroni Fajardo – have won the event since 2006.

In the women’s trophy, Australia was represented by Ian Halls, Brooke Lonie and Kristie McKinnon, finishing seventh.
