
After a one-year sabbatical, Australia could be returning to the Speedway Grand Prix calendar in 2019, with the series promoter allocating a spot for a round Down Under.
However, the 11th round in Australia only has ‘TBC’ status at this stage, as BSI Speedway continues the process of working alongside local company Paul Sergeant Events to lock in both a date and location.
Round 10 of the 2019 SGP series will be held in Poland on October 5, which means the Australian round – if it goes ahead – will most likely be allocated a Saturday night staging in mid to late October – either the 19th or 26th.
After signing an initial five-year contract, Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium hosted the Aussie SGP round from 2015-2017, but a lack of support ultimate spelt the death knell of the event.
The architect of bringing SGP to Etihad, Paul Sergeant, is now at the helm of the company attempting to bring the speedway showpiece back to local shores.
Jason Doyle will be the only Australian in the 2019 SGP field.
