
A dogged Australia has finished second in its UK-hosted qualifying round for the 2010 Speedway World Cup (SWC), and will now have to fight its way through a 'Race-off' to make it into the Danish final this Saturday night.
On home soil King's Lynn, Great Britain defeated the Leigh Adams and Jason Crump-less Australia by 3pts, moving straight into the final alongside Poland.
Meanwhile, Australia will be joined by Sweden, Russia and Denmark in the Race-off, with the top two teams advancing to the final.
Australia put on a great show at King's Lynn, and was well serviced by Chris Holder (who won the recent British GP in Cardiff), captain Dave Watt and Troy Batchelor. Only Rory Schlein and reigning world under 21 champion Darcy Ward didn't manage double-figure scores.
Ultimately, Great Britain was just a little too strong, with Scott Nicholls the equal top scorer with a near perfect 14pts.
