The three biggest national speedway leagues in the world - the United Kingdom, Sweden and Poland - have now fired into life for 2009, with the biggest contingent of Aussies once again competing in the UK.
Australians wil be represented in the three tiers of club speedway in the UK - the Elite, Premier and National Leagues respectively.
In the premier Elite division, Mildura's Leigh Adams is the standout Australian now that Jason Crump has elected to sit out 2009 to concentrate on racing in Sweden and Poland, as well as competing in selected one-off race meetings.
In one of those cameos, Crump scored maximum points in the Billy Hamill farewell meeting at Wolverhampton on March 23, with Adams fourth.
Crump and Adams will also compete in the 2009 world speedway title, which stars in the Czech Republic on April 25.
Adams will again ride with Swindon in the UK, alongside countrymen Troy Batchelor and Travis McGowan. The other Aussies in the Elite League will be Chris Holder and Jason Doyle (Poole); Rory Schlein (Coventry); Adam Shields (Lakeside); Davey Watt (Eastbourne) and Ty Proctor is a reserve at Wolverhampton.
Highly rated Perth-based Englishman, Tai Woffinden, will also ride at Wolverhampton.
Twenty-three Australians, a mix of veterans and young guns, will be in the Premier League, and five in the National League.
Adams will also be one of the stars in Poland, where speedway racing is the most popular spectator sport and riders like Tomasz Gollob are national icons.
