South Australian David Johnson will make his second appearance in the 2012 Superbike World Championship when he saddles up at Silverstone this weekend.
The 29-year-old will replace Argentine Leandro Mercado on the Pedercini Kawasaki, with the latter returning to the Superstock 1000 ranks after a bruising maiden season in WSBK.
Johnson will ride the ZX-10R Superbike for the first time in Friday morning’s opening practice session ahead of Sunday’s two 18-lap races.
Johnson, who was a former junior BMX champion before he started motorcycle racing at the age of 17, is currently competing in the British Superstock 1000 title on a BMW. He scored his first victory at Oulton Park in early July, and is equal fifth in the standings.
The first WSBK outing for Johnson in 2012 was at Phillip Island, but a lack of set-up time on his full-blown ex-British BMW Superbike saw him head into the races underdone, and he returned a best result of 19th.
