The 2014 Australian Supercross Championship wrapped up at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Saturday, November 8, with Matt Moss (Suzuki) and American Gavin Faith (Honda) crowned the SX1 and SX2 champions respectively.
Moss was brilliant again as he completed the full house: victories across all five rounds to complete the championship on a perfect score of 175pts.
At Brisbane, the only indoor round in 2014, Moss defeated Kawasaki’s Adam Monea in the 20-lap 12-rider final, with privateer Sam Martin (Suzuki) completing the podium.
Moss has now won consecutive SX1 crowns, and in 2014 he also came out on top in the Australian Motocross Championship.
“I want to say thanks to the Brisbane fans for coming out tonight,” Moss said. “It’s been a great year and I can’t ask for any better than a clean-sweep.
“I got hit in the first corner, but then I could see the leaders so I put the hammer down and got going.
“People have questioned if I could win without the holeshot so tonight proved them all wrong which was pretty sweet. I am overwhelmed at the moment. Winning the way we did is a huge feat and it hasn’t really sunk in yet.”
Monea was second in the SX1 title on 150pts, from Lawson Bopping (Suzuki, 142), Kirk Gibbs (KTM< 137) and Jesse Dobson (KTM, 121).
In SX2, Faith finished behind Taylor Potter (Suzuki) in the Brisbane final, with Hayden Mellross (Suzuki) third.
Faith completed the five rounds on 167pts, from Potter (144), Kyle Peters (Honda, 140), Mellross (137) and Kale Makeham (KTM, 125).
