The word is obviously getting out – now is a great time to buy new motorcycles, scooters and ATVs in Australia, despite continued streaky economic indicators.
In the first five months of 2012, a total of 42,325 units were sold in Australia – a 7.1 percent increase on 2011 -- with three of the four segments showing strong growth – ATV, off-road and road, up 9.4, 4.8 and 12.7 percent respectively. Only scooters have failed to read from the same script, and have dropped by 8.1 percent.
Honda’s powerhouse year continues, with the Japanese giant’s sales of 9930 accounting for 23.5 percent of the total market, followed by Yamaha (15.2), Suzuki (11.1), Kawasaki (9.0), Harley-Davidson (7.2), KTM (5.4), Polaris (3.7), Triumph (2.9), Kymco (1.8) and BMW (1.8).
Of the top 10, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Kymco have all dropped sales in 2012 – marginal for Suzuki and Kawasaki, with Yamaha and Kymco taking the biggest whacks. BMW has remained constant.
Next month, the Bikesales Network will run a full half-year sales report, including a full critique of the top 10 sellers in each category.
