The Australian motorcycle, ATV and scooter market continues to show plenty of backbone in the face of potential economic spoilers aplenty, and is currently up 3.6 percent year-to-date (YTD) over the same period in 2010.
That equates to overall sales of 96,133, dominated by the ‘road’ (35,558) and ‘off-road’ sectors (30,775), and then big gaps back to ATV (19,481) and scooter (10,319).
But although their market share isn’t massive, the ATV and scooter segments have shown the biggest percentage increases YTD, up 21 and 10.1 respectively, which is a fundamental reason why the whole market has grown.
Based on current consumption, coupled with expectations of a bumper December harvest for retail outlets, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect sales to exceed the 105,000 mark in 2011.
YTD, Honda has 21.67 per cent of the total motorcycle, ATV and scooter pie, ahead of Yamaha (18.00) and Suzuki (12.40)
A full market summary for 2011 will be released in mid-January, when the Bikesales Network will also find out which individual models have come up trumps over the past 12 months -- and those which have failed to impress the public.
Meanwhile, Japan has just released its sales figures YTD (excluding ATVs), and has come in at 377,973 units, a 6.68 per cent increase on 2010.
