An Australian will take delivery of a slice of sports bike exotica this month – the Moto Guzzi MGS-01 Corsa.
But this is not your everyday humdrum, as the air-cooled 90-degree track-only bike is still only produced to order – just like it has been since its release in 2004. And it’s also $48,990, which tests the staying power of most household budgets.
The MGS-01 Corsa, first unveiled at Intermot in 2002, is only produced to order, and features high compression Cosworth pistons, ceramic-coated cylinders, Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, shaft drive, and a one-piece quick-release carbon fibre body design.
The bikes are shipped in crates carrying a special MGS-01 logo on the outside and a personalised spiral-bound owners, parts and maintenance manual.
According to Moto Guzzi, the MGS-01 is “lovingly assembled by craftsmen and dedicated to genuine connoisseurs of motorcycling”. The Italians certainly know how to do romanticism -- like Vespa’s spiel about its factory being nestled in the Tuscan countryside.
There are now close to 10 MGS-01 collectors in Australia.
