Aussie journalist Rennie Scaysbrook will return for his third attempt at the famed Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado on Sunday, June 24.
Scaysbrook will again be a part of the Team Cycle News/KTM North America team, using the same KTM 1290 Super Duke R he raced to second place behind Chris Fillmore in 2017.
One of only five motorcycle riders in the history of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb to go under 10 minutes with his 2017 run of 9:57.712, Scaysbrook is hoping to go one better this year but knows he will have some extreme competition to face, including the return of Ducati’s former lap record holder Carlin Dunne and teammate Fillmore, who will be competing in the middleweight division on KTM’s new 790 Duke.

“I can’t wait to get back to the mountain this year,” said Scaysbrook.
“This year’s preparation has been going well. We have completed two tests so far with more to come and I feel I’m ready for the challenge of racing the mountain once again.
“This year will be very tough as there are several really fast riders on the grid. I’m sure the times will be close but we’ll be fighting with everything we’ve got to come out on top. This is my third year at the mountain and I want to enjoy my time at this incredible event, relax and have fun – that’s when the speed comes.
“I feel totally comfortable on the KTM, too. The huge amount of torque on offer from the 1301cc V-twin, as well as the nimble chassis, make it the ideal machine for such a unique race.”

Before he joined Cycle News in America, Scaysbrook was a journalist at Australian Motorcycle News, as well as an occasional Bikesales contributor. We particularly enjoyed his ‘Tombstones and motorcycles’ feature from 2015.
