Latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows motorcycle registrations have accelerated in the last five years, their growth putting them ahead of that of any other category of vehicle.
According to Sybille McKeown, ABS Director of Transport Statistics, motorcycle registration have spiked in recent years. “From 2008 to 2013 motorcycle registrations – including scooters – went up by over 30 per cent while cars only saw an increase of 10 per cent,” she said.
Western Australian bikers are leading the way, with that state’s motorcycle registrations up by a massive 50 per cent over the past five years, while motorcycle registrations nationally have risen by five per cent in this year alone.
“There are now around 750,000 motorcycles on the road and just on 13 million cars,” said Ms McKeown. “Once you add in trucks, campervans, buses and so on, there are over 17,000,000 registered motor vehicles in Australia, which is up nearly three per cent since last year.”
