
The champagne is still on ice, but the Australian motorcycle looks like it could finally be on the upswing after two years of negative growth.
The Bikesales Network can announce the Aussie market, year to date, is one percent up on the same period in 2010, with our sources revealing the off-road, road and scooter categories all rallied in April to help the figure move into positive category.
Official sales figures are only released quarterly so we don’t know the exact make up of the four marker segments – ATV, off-road, road and scooter – but we do know the headline figure – 31,001 units have been sold so far in 2011 vis-à-vis 30,691 in 2010.
At the end of March, the market was down 1.2 per cent, but it was clearly a case of a barnstorming ATV market – and to a less extent scooter -- propping up continued losses in off-road and road. Does this reflect a seismic shift in the market, or will off-road and road return to their glory days?
At the end of March this year, Yamaha held a fairly strong advantage over Honda as the No. 1 selling brand in 2011.
The next official sales data will be released in early to mid July, where we’ll also be able to tell you which bikes are doing the business in the individual market segments.
