Aussie for Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge

Victorian Matthew Fish will take on the might of Dakar legends Marc Coma and Cyril Despres – as well as wave after wave of sand dunes…

Australia’s Matthew Fish will compete in the 22nd running of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, which will be held across the emirate from March 30 to April 6, 2012.

The brutal event, which also doubles as the opening round of the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship, has attracted a brilliant field, including Dakar legends and KTM duo Cyril Despres and Marc Coma, Portugal’s Helder Rodrigues (Yamaha), and UAE-based Briton Sam Sunderland (Honda), who won two stages last year and also competed in the Australasian Safari.

Coma is the defending champion.

Fish, who was third in the 2010 Australasian Safari, will ride a KTM in the Desert Challenge, which also includes participants from the USA, Chile, Kazakhstan and Russia. There are also quad and car categories.

For spectators, there will be a number of free vantage points in the Al Gharbia desert, and they can also catch the start of the rally, with the Super Special Stage.
