An all-new range of Australian-designed electric motorcycles had its global unveiling at Melbourne’s Moto Expo event on Friday, November 23, 2018.
Savic Motorcycles used the country’s biggest motorcycle expo as the stage to launch its new breed of café racer-styled electric motorcycles based around the C40 prototype – orders of which are now being taken for both the 2019 and 2020 model years.
It’s the brainchild of young Australian entrepreneur Dennis Savic, who keen to take advantage of the inevitability of electric-powered transport, with the Melbourne man confirming the machines will be assembled in Australia from parts produced in both Taiwan and Australia.
"These motorcycles are unique offering with the most advanced features and functionality that the materials engineering, electronic controls, electrical technology and 3D manufacturing can offer today," Savic said.
"We have created a unique design featuring a perfectly rolled (not bent) backbone frame and developed our own powertrain package. Our 5-10 production prototypes that will start manufacture in the coming months feature a fully integrated, stressed, liquid-cooled motor and energy storage system.”
Savic said he intends to have three variants on offer by the 2020 model year which will range from a 20kW Omega which will be competitively priced from $12,000, a 40kW Delta starting from $15,000 and a 60kW Alpha priced around the $20,000, mark.
Each model will be offered with different battery options based on the would-be owners preference, the largest, and presumably most expensive will offer owners a range of up to 250km, while the smallest will be able to take owners 50km before requiring a recharge.
