The popular AUS-X Open will not run in 2020, as COVID-19 continues to make it difficult for event organisers to plan ahead.
Instead, promoter AME Management says it will invest its focus and resources into developing a bigger and better international supercross event for 2021.
Despite intense discussion, AME decided it was not possible to replicate the success of the 2019 event under the current circumstances. It will use the extra time to create an ‘unmissable experience’ in 2021.

Since its introduction in 2015, the AUS-X Open has quickly built a loyal following and a reputation as one of the world’s leading supercross and action sports events.
Originally held in Sydney, the event has attracted the likes of Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson, as well as Australian supercross legend, Chad Reed.
In 2019, the event was moved to Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, with 35,000 spectators making their way through the gates to watch the spectacle.
As well as world-class supercross action on a full-size track, the event include live music, pyrotechnics and light shows, and various novelty races. AUS-X Open was recently announced as a finalist for the Brest Sporting Event at the Australian Event Awards.
The Melbourne event was a large undertaking with over 5100 railway sleepers and 1865 steel prop supports imported into Marvel Stadium, as well as 850 truckloads and up to 6000 tonnes of dirt, machinery and infrastructure.
It was a win for the Victorian government, with over 14,000 fans travelling from outside Victoria, injecting a reported $22 million into the local economy. The event was broadcast live on Channel 10 and Fox Sports, and was distributed to over 98 countries and over 380 million households worldwide.
As well as turning its focus to planning a huge AUS-X Open in 2021, AME Management has also pledged to help give back to the sport at a grassroots level, with plans to help attract new riders and families to the sport of motocross.
