Honda's defending champion Troy Herfoss was the overall winner in round two of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) at Wakefield Park near Goulburn on Sunday, March 19.

Back on his home track, polesitter Herfoss finished first and second in the two superbike races, completing the round ahead of Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha, 8-1), Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki, 2-6), Bryan Staring (Honda, 4-5) and championship leader Daniel Falzon (Yamaha 3-9).
The weather was unpredictable all weekend, which made race one a particularly difficult affair for tyre choice.
Maxwell led for the opening two laps, but it was Herfoss who got the job done ahead of Bugden, Josh Hook (Kawasaki), Staring and Aiden Coote (Kawasaki). Falzon was ninth, one spot behind Maxwell, with fast men such as Josh Waters (Suzuki, 12th) and Cru Halliday (Yamaha, 17th) even further back.
In race two, Herfoss had to charge his way through from the back of the field after he fluffed the start when his bike wasn't properly engaged in first gear. He then rallied magnificently and started picking his way through the pack, eventually passing long-time leader Maxwell on lap 17 of 20 – before the race was red-flagged after Halliday crashed heavily out of third spot.

Final positions were then declared at the end of lap 16, which meant Maxwell was awarded the win from Herfoss, Falzon, Waters, Staring and Bugden.
Falzon leads the championship on 106pt from Herfoss (93), Budgen (89), Maxwell (79) and Staring (69).

While Maxwell was in great form at Wakefield Park, it was a disaster for teammate Glenn Allerton who broke his arm in two places in Friday practice. He will be out of action for 8-10 weeks, which means he will miss round three at Winton (Vic) from April 28-30.
