A new Australian distributor for Arctic Cat has been listed on the Minnesota-based manufacturer’s website -- at the same Melbourne headquarters where Triumph, Hyosung, Piaggio and Vespa currently reside.
The local company’s official title is Arctic ATV Australia Pty Ltd, and it will import the full range of Arctic Cat products: snowmobiles, ATVs, side-by-sides and the Wildcat, which is a sporty side-by-side set to challenge the Can-Am Commander and Polaris RZR for the fun – and racing -- dollar. The four-seater Wildcat 4 1000 (pictured) will be released in America in February, 2013.
The current Australian importer for Arctic Cat, the Silverwater-based Chain Systems Pty Ltd, is still listed on the company’s website, but only dealing in snowmobiles and ATVs. The Bikesales Network is still awaiting an official announcement on the revamped Arctic Cat operations in Australia, and whether that will include a role for Chain Systems.
Arctic Cat celebrated its 50th birthday in 2011, but it’s been quite a bumpy road over the years, including bankruptcy during the 1980s. The business was founded by Edgar Hetteen in 1960. Arctic Cat’s headquarters are in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.
