Aprilia has released pictures and some early details of its new RSV4 superbike, which is destined to compete in next year's world championship and be available on showroom floors.
There are two variants promised, a standard claiming in the vicinity of 180 horses in a 190kg package, and a factory version with a power-up kit and lots of carbon fibre, that's likely to have an extra 20 or so horses.
Its 65-degree V-four powerplant is completely new for the company and will replace the ageing Rotax twin as its performance leader. Electronics will include a fly-by-wire throttle, variable-length intake manifolds, three alternative power ECU maps plus traction control.
It will be housed in a twin-spar allow frame featuring Ohlins suspension.
The company only needs to sell 250 by February to qualify for world superbikes, followed by another 750 by June, so it's likely to start sales with a limited-edition version.
Stylist Miguel Galluzzi, who also lists the Ducati Monster and Cagiva Raptor to his list of credits, says a naked street-fighter version is in the pipeline.
