Aprilia Dorsoduro lobs at Australian Motorcycle Expo

One for the maxi motard segment

This is the "explosive cocktail" created by Aprilia's R & D department - the Aprilia SMV 750 Dorsoduro.

In Melbourne for the Australian Motorcycle Expo, the machine, which shares its name with one of the six sestiero (divisions) of Venice, is powered by the same seamless fuel-injected 750cc V-twin found in the Aprilia Shiver, featuring ride by wire throttle and a claimed 95ps.

Aprilia says the engine and the trellis aluminium-alloy chassis are the trump cards that make the Dorsoduro more than a machine for the masses, but instead a "thoroughbred that expert riders can really appreciate".

Like the Shiver, the Dorsoduro also has a hydraulic clutch, USD forks and an offset monsoshock with preload and rebound adjustment. The brakes are radial mounted with wave discs.

The Dorsoduro was first unveiled at last year's Milan Show.

Expect a price around the high 15K mark when the bike goes on sale early next year.
