It's raining at Bikesales HQ today, the same day that schematics for the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 were leaked. Coincidence? Yeah, probably...
The Aprilia dealer portal let the cat out of the bag ahead of the Dorsoduro 1200/Dorsoduro 1200 ABS's official launch, which is likely to take place at the 2010 EICMA show in Italy in November, with several juicy details on the big banger emerging as a result.
Back to the Dorso' 1200, and it'll be powered by a 90-degree liquid-cooled 1197cc V-twin engine with DOHC and four-valves per cylinder, mated to a six-speed cog swapper. Unfortunately the manual doesn't detail how many herbs the new powerplant ekes out, but torque should be bountiful and shifting the Dorsoduro 1200's 223kg kerb weight is unlikely to stress the engine.
Fitted with a 15lt fuel tank, long distance cruising probably won't be the 1200's strong suit, but it should deliver a comfortable ride, fitted with Sachs suspension front and rear; fully adjustable upside-down front forks and a piggy-back rear shocker, also adjustable for rebound, pre-load, and compression.
Twin brake rotors are sized 320mm at the front axle, fitted with four-pot calipers apiece, and the rear 240mm rotor gets a single-potter. There are standard and ABS-equipped models, but it's too early to tell which models will come to Australia.
The Dorsoduro 1200 has been on drawing board ever since the 750cc model hit the scene, and like the Dorsoduro 750's evil twin, the Shiver, it's possible that we may even see a Shiver 1200 down the track.
Some of the 2011 Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200's measurements that can be gleaned from the manual include a seat height of 870mm, a wheelbase of 1528mm and an overall length of 2248mm.
The instrument cluster features an analogue tach and digital speedo, and a ride-by-wire throttle control system is also part of the package.
Obviously the images are a bit hazy at the moment, but we can expect more info on the new Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 leading up to the EICMA event later this year.
