One of Aprilia's most powerful off-road engines is the 550cc V-twin, a 70hp (51kW) unit which is found in the RXV and SXV550 models, and the images you see here is what happens when the imagination runs wild.
Luca Bar is young Italian designer and member of the Motorcycle Design Association, and the Aprilia 5.5 Street is his take on what an Italian supermoto should look like.
Showing off a bare-bones look - more like a naked bike than a supermotard - the 5.5 Street incorporates a minimalistic frame and tail section. Cast your eyes towards the front of the motorcycle and you notice integrated side fairing sections that fit neatly next to the fuel tank, giving the front=end a heavyset appearance.
The underslung exhaust pipe is a nice touch, as are the wave front disc brakes and the rugged headlight mounts.
Though this fictional creation is easy on the eyes, we would be more than happy if the local Aprilia importer began bringing a few of 550cc V-twin super moto and dirt bikes in Australia. With 70hp on tap and a relatively light kerb weight, even the standard dirt bikes would make for an energetic ride.
