Former 250 GP winner Anthony West is happy bloke today, as news has just broken that the Queenslander will be riding in the Moto2 championship for MZ Racing.
Riding for the German MZ Racing team run by former 250 GP race winners Martin Wimmer and Ralf Waldmann, West could be a real smokey as the bike has been performing well in pre-season testing.
West is the sole rider for MZ Racing, and the team was confirmed for the Moto2 championship after Kino Racing withdrew due to cash flow problems.
West will be the only Australian in Moto2, and has previously raced in the former 250 GP class for Honda, KTM and Aprilia. He also raced in MotoGP for Kawasaki in 2007-2008 before joining world supersport last year.
The opening round will be held in Qatar from April 9-11, with Casey Stoner upholding local fortunes in the premier MotoGP category.
