Anstey wins 8th Isle of Man TT race

New Zealander Bruce Anstey has won a 600cc Supersport race at the IoMTT, but the race was marred by tragedy

More drama in the Isle of Man TT (IoMTT) yesterday in the Supersport category, as the 600cc machines battled it out for supremacy. There had been a number of crashes on the first lap and it wasn't long before the tragic news that another rider had died emerged.

The race was then red flagged and restarted later.

Derek Brien was racing through the fast Gorse Lea area of the 60km Mountain Course, at speeds of around 140mph (225km/h), when he crashed and died.

A spectator captured the footage of Guy Martin crashing in the first Supersport race, in which he ended up finishing third after it was restarted due to the terrible crash of Derek Brien.

Australian rider Cameron Donald looked set to win the event and was leading the race for a time, but bowed out in lap three due to mechanical issues.

The eventual winner of the Supersport category was New Zealander Bruce Anstey, who was eight seconds ahead of Keith Amor in second place. This marks the eighth IoMTT race win for Anstey.

Guy Martin finished third, Gary Johnson finished fourth and John McGuinness finished fifth. Full results below.
