Andrew Pitt gets airborne

Takes time out to frolic in a jet fighter

Dual world supersport champion Andrew Pitt will be heading to Phillip Island on February 28 to contest the Superbike World Championship opener board a Reitwagen Motorsport BMW S 1000 RR.

But before he heads to Victoria to get a feel for his new steed and privateer team, Pitt spent some time up in the clouds in his hometown of Port Macquarie (NSW) in the cockpit of a Strikemaster MK88 jet fighter. Capable of more than 1000km/h, Pitt was treated to the kind of G-forces rarely encountered on terra firma, along with stomach-churning barrel rolls at 30,000 feet.

The Strikemaster MK88 features a Viper engine and is a British-built ex-NZ Airforce jet owned by Port Macquarie businessman and pilot, Rodney Hall.

"The flight was an absolute thrill and I’d love to do it again," said Pitt. "I seem to spend half of my life in airplanes, but there was not much time to work on the Blackberry or watch movies in this machine -- the G-forces are incredible and the speed sensational. Definitely the next best thing to a superbike or MotoGP bike!"
