Andrea Dovizioso to Tech 3 Yamaha in 2012
With his tenure at Repsol Honda coming to a close in three more races, the Italian has now found a spot at Yamaha's satellite team alongside Cal CrutchlowThe Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team has signed Italian Andrea Dovizioso for the 2012 MotoGP season, replacing American Colin Edwards.
The 25-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the French-based Tech 3, having proven to be one of the fastest and most consistent performers on the grid since his MotoGP debut in 2008.
“I'm happy to have reached this agreement with Tech 3 for next year and I want to thank Hervé Poncharal for the opportunity he is giving me,” said Dovizioso. “I am excited to become part of Hervé's squad and to be teamed with Cal.
“I am sure this new challenge will be exciting, motivating and fun. Now that 2012 is sorted I want to focus on finishing the season in the best possible way."??
In 2011, Dovizioso has been on the podium five times, and he looks set to battle it with teammate Dani Pedrosa for third place in the championship over the last few rounds in Australia, Malaysia and Spain.
The Italian, who was 125cc world champion in 2004 and twice runner-up in the 250cc class, will join Cal Crutchlow at Tech 3 aboard Yamaha’s new 1000cc MotoGP bike.
Honda has chosen to let Dovizioso go at the end of this year, supremely content with its factory roster in 2012 – a likely 2011 world champion in Casey Stoner, a regular race winner in Dani Pedrosa, and a hugely popular rider in Marco Simoncelli, who rides for the San Carlo Gresini team.
