Chad Reed (Kawasaki) has backed up his victory at Anaheim with a third place finish in the fourth round of the 2014 AMA Supercross Championship at Oakland’s O.co Coliseum on January 25.
The proud Aussie, who celebrated Australia Day by donning green and gold riding apparel throughout practice, got a good start in the final and quickly moved into second place behind Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki). He held second until lap 13 of the 20-lap duel before being passed by Suzuki’s James Stewart and relegated to third ahead of Ryan Dungey (KTM and Justin Brayton (Yamaha).
“It is good to get a podium and good for points,” Reed said. “I had a solid week leading into this event and my starts tonight were really good.
“For me that quad jump drove me nuts all day; I couldn’t find a rhythm and each time I did it felt like the first time.
“You live and learn, even after 13 seasons there is still a lot to learn that is why we love doing it and that is why I wake up in the morning and I believe I can still be better.”
Reed now sits second in the championship standings on 77 points behind Villopoto (84) and in front of Ken Roczen (KTM, 75), Dungey (75), Brayton (71) and Stewart (66).
Australia’s Dean Ferris was 10th in the 250cc final in Oakland and is ninth in the standings in his rookie year.
The championship will now return to Anaheim's Angel Stadium on February 1 for the final time this season.
