Whether they are motorcycle meetings, ‘bikes/car and coffee’ gatherings, motorkhana events, classic rallies or organised 4WD adventures, the sheer number of motorcycle and automotive events taking place at any one time in Australia today is astonishing.
That’s why Glen Dollman decided it would be a good idea to create one-stop-shop for all the activity going on in this wide brown land, negating the need to check multiple websites, magazines, Facebook pages, Twitter feeds, etc.
So the MotorCal app was born.
Dollman, a pit crew mechanic from Melbourne, has put together a free, easy-to-use app for Android and Apple iOS operating systems that allows users to search out events via several criteria.
These include a general keyword search, a location search including radius and also by category, such as show’n’shine, club, drift, drag, speedway, motorcycle, rally – the list goes on.
You can then drill down to search for certain times, such as between October 1 and 15. The search results are impressive, with a huge amount of events already included in the app.
Once you find an event you like, you click it and get all the details, such as the cost, location, time, requirements and so on.
Navigating the MotorCal app is fairly simple, after logging on via either Facebook or Gmail, or by using a separate email and password.
Motorsport and motoring event organisers can list for free, but there's sponsorship scope for corporate entities.
"The whole team at MotorCal is really proud to provide this resource for the Aussie motoring and motorsport scene," said Dollman.
"App users now have access to such a diverse range of events, right in the palm of their hand.
“Plus we're supporting the efforts of the event organisers, helping them to succeed, so it's really a win-win."
Search for MotorCal in the Google Play store Apple App Store. There's also a desktop browser-based version of MotorCal.
