BMW has added a new model to its high-performance M range, with the German marque revealing the all-new 2023 BMW M 1000 R.
Based on the recently-updated BMW S 1000 R, the new M 1000 R adds a bunch of performance-focused features that give the up-spec bike a track-focused edge over the standard machine.
The M 1000 R naked roadster joins the M 1000 RR in the M range. First released in September 2020, the M 1000 RR was the first dedicated BMW M model. That bike has also been updated for 2023.

Headlining the list of improvements for the M 1000 R is a more powerful engine that puts out an extra 45hp and delivers peak torque at a higher RPM. The M 1000 R’s figures are 210hp (154kW) at 13,750rpm and 113Nm at 11,000rpm.
The suspension and chassis have also been tuned for performance use, with a fully adjustable fork and shock, a steering damper, a milled-over handlebar clamp, and a wider tubular handlebar with laser-etched M lettering.
Elsewhere, the new M model also features winglets and wing deflectors, as well as M brakes with radial hand brake pump and lightweight forged aluminium wheels.
In the electronic department, the M 1000 R adds a new Brake Slide Assist function, and also a M GPS Datalogger and M GPS Laptrigger than can be used via the 6.5-inch TFT display.
Other standard features on the new M R include a quickshifter, multiple ride modes (including a Race Pro mode), launch control, a pit lane limiter, a lightweight M battery, and exclusive M design elements and graphics.
The M brand was born as the high-performance and competition arm of BMW's car division. A range of special M parts were soon made available for two-wheel products, before the M 1000 RR arrived in 2020. BMW celebrated 50 years of the M brand earlier this year, releasing a special anniversary edition of the M 1000 RR.
UPDATE: The new 2023 BMW M 1000 R will arrive in Australia in early 2023 with a price tag of $32,290 (plus on-road costs).
