KTM might be going through a period of financial turmoil, but the brand isn’t showing signs of backing down, pulling the covers off its all-new and improved 1390 Super Adventure R for 2025.
And in a further positive sign of KTM’s commitment to its future, the brand confirmed in a press release that the new Super Adventure R will continue to be built in Austria, rather than India or China.
The flagship off-road adventure model follows on from the reveal of the road-leaning 1390 Super Adventure S. There is also an S EVO model with automatic transmission and advanced radar technology, however that won’t be making its way to Australia.
Like the Super Adventure S, and the 1390 Super Duke R that dropped earlier this year, the Super Adventure R gets a bigger and heavily updated engine. It employs KTM’s new Camshift technology (suspiciously like BMW’s ShiftCam), which is designed to improve rideability at lower revs.
Power and torque have both been increased from the outgoing 1290 version, thanks in part to the bigger displacement, which, despite the bike’s name, now sits at 1350cc.
Also new is the 8-inch vertically mounted touchscreen display, which features a new interface, anti-reflex, anti-fingerprint, and anti-glare coatings, and a heap of new functions including new ride modes and built-in navigation.
The 1390 Super Adventure R forgoes semi-active suspension in favour of a more rugged and traditional set-up, with a 48mm WP XPLOR split cartridge fork on the front, and a WP XPLOR PDS shock on the rear.
Likewise, in the name of rugged simplicity, it appears the R will not be fitted with automatic transmission and radar-enabled features; however a front radar is available as an optional extra.
Elsewhere, there is new bodywork, a shorter windshield, more storage, a stiffer chassis, and better protection components.
Australian availability and pricing are yet to be announced, but KTM has indicated that the new machine will roll off the production line sometime in 2025.
