All-new 1250cc Harley-Davidson Sportster S revealed

Featuring the same Revolution Max engine as the Pan America, the Harley-Davidson Sportster S marks a new era for the Milwaukee firm

The all-new 2021 Harley-Davidson Sportster S has been revealed overnight, with the machine utilising the Pan America’s 1252cc Revolution Max V-twin engine platform.

Due on Australian soil in late 2021, the new 2021 Harley-Davidson Sportster S will start with a ride-away price tag of $26,495 for the Vivid Black variant.

Acting as a production version of the 1250 Custom concept bike that H-D has previously teased, the new Sportster S marks a new era for the firm’s sporting line-up after several popular models were recently dropped.

With styling that draws inspiration from classic bobbers and H-D’s own XR750 flat tracker, the new Sportster S is designed with sporting performance in mind.

However, despite the use of the Revolution Max platform, the Sportster S has a significantly lower power output than the Pan America, with 121hp compared to the Pan Am's 150hp. But torque is similar at 127Nm and Harley says the Sportster S powerplant has been specially tuned to make more torque at lower RPM and robust power through the mid-range.

The Sportster S features more low-down torque than the Pan Am

The Rev Max 1250T engine (the ‘T’ distinguishes it from the Pan Am engine) is also designed with weight-saving in mind. The engine is integrated as a central member of the chassis, and the use of lightweight materials help achieve a desirable power-to-weight ratio. The Sportster S tips the scales at just 228kg.

Furthering the bike’s capability is fully-adjustable Showa suspension, with a Showa 43mm inverted cartridge fork up front, and a Showa Piggyback reservoir rear shock. The bike is also equipped with Dunlop/Harley-Davidson Series GT503 tyres and premium Brembo braking components.

The Sportster S is packed with technology

Elsewhere, the Sportster S, like the Pan America and LiveWire, is packed with technology including programmable ride modes, Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements, a 4.0-inch TFT display, Bluetooth-friendly infotainment, cruise control, a security system and LED lighting.

As with all Harley models, the Sportster S is compatible with a wide range of accessories and optional extras. As well as heated grips, would-be owners can also purchase a mid-control conversion kit (AKA changing footpeg position), a pillion passenger kit, a Sundowner solo seat, a detachable windshield, a Sportster S tail bag, plus much more.

There are three colour schemes for the new Harley-Davidson Sportster S

The new Harley-Davidson Sportster S comes in Vivid Black, Stone Washed White Pearl, and Midnight Crimson colour schemes, and is expected to arrive in Australia in the last quarter of 2021. Stay tuned to bikesales.com.au for more information.
