
Alex Marquez won the inaugural #StayAtHomeGP, beating fellow competitors around a virtual rendering of the famous Mugello circuit.
The new Repsol Honda Team recruit fought off Pramac’s Francesco Bagnaia and Yamaha’s Maverick Vinales to claim the victory.
Petronas Yamaha SRT’s Fabio Quartararo started the race from pole position, but he crashed on turn 1, opening the door for Marquez to take the lead. The Spaniard slowly opened a gap on the rest of the field.
Marquez’s brother, and reigning world champion, Marx Marquez, finished fifth.
In a first for MotoGP, the race utilised the MotoGP 19 video game and was held over six laps, with a qualifying session preceding the main event. Riders used traditional controllers rather than elaborate simulators, so it was more a test of video game ability.
