Akrapovic Morsus custom chopper

The motorcycle exhaust maker has launched a new range of cruiser-inspired accessories, building this wild machine to celebrate its new products

When it comes to custom choppers and cruisers, there are those who nod sagely and understand the allure, while others laugh at the outrageous designs and often impractical ergonomics.

It seems as though one of the world's leading motorcycle exhaust manufacturers, Akrapovic, has decided to meander over to the former camp, unleashing the Morsus custom chopper.

Built with a little help from Slovenian compatriots Dreamachine Motorcycles, the Akrapovic Morsus custom chopper was designed to spruik the company's newly launched cruiser-inspired exhaust systems and air filters, which will rival the likes of established brands in the aftermarket sector, brand like Leo Vince, Vance and Hines, Hooker Pipes, Bessani, Rush, Arlen Ness, Rinehart, S&S Cycles, Supertrap and so on.

Time will tell if Akrapovic can successfully branch out from its sports bike origins into the lucrative cruiser market, as the Slovenian exhaust specialist is most widely recognised as a suuplier to top flight motorcycle racing teams from disciplines such as MotoGP, World Superbikes and various domestic super sport and super stock competitions.

The Morsus custom chopper is fitted with a neat underslung Akrapovic exhaust (modified slightly by Dreamachine), and some of the other standout features include the open primary drive, the outrageous 26-inch carbon wheels, 3D triple trees and teardrop mirrors.

Power for the eye-popping design comes from an S&S 113 cubic inch (1852cc) V-twin, which is good for around 114hp (84kW) when breathing through the Akrapovic exhaust and air filtration systems, and the engine power is diverted through a six-speed manual cog-swapper.

Far from traditional, the Morsus design in and of itself will ignite a few discussions (but will it sell exhausts?); evenly sized wheels with skinny tyres and a smoothly sculpted frame provide the bike with a big wow factor, as do the slender fuel tank and seat section.

Akrapovic has developed a full range of exhaust solutions for cruisers and choppers, as seen in the final few images, including a pair of shiny cans for the Harley-Davidson 883.
