Former wor5ld superbike regular Mark Aitchison will step in for an injured Alexander Lundh at the upcoming British round of the championship at Silverstone, for a one-off return to Team Pedercini Kawasaki.
The 29-year-old Australian, who contested the whole 2011 season with the Italian squad, had already taken part in three rounds of the current year with Team Effenbert Liberty Racing, before the Czech team decided to withdraw from the series after the Italian event at Monza.
“Obviously I'm very happy to have the opportunity to ride again for the Pedercini squad,” said Aitchison. “I have a lot of fond memories from my 2011 season with them and I’m sure this weekend will add another story to the chapter.
“Honestly, I really cannot know what to expect from the weekend ahead. I’m not so familiar with the current-spec Pedercini Kawasaki Superbike and I have not been on board a bike since the Monza round of the championship, roughly three months ago.
“In any case, I would like to say thank you to the Pedercini family again for this opportunity and I wish Alex Lundh a speedy recovery from his wrist injuries. I look forward to racing at Silverstone, which is a circuit I really enjoy, and to working with all the crew.”
Round nine of the Superbike World Championship will be held at Silverstone, UK, over August 2-4. Heading into the round it’s France’s Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia) on top of the leaderboard with 293 points, ahead of Britain’s Tom Sykes (Kawasaki) on 235 points and Italy’s Marco Melandri (BMW) on 207 points.
