Ago on his way back to Australia!

The 15-time world champion will be the special guest at the 2017 International Festival of Speed at Sydney Motorsport Park

Road racing legend Giacomo Agostini will be making his second visit to Australia in four years when he attends the 2017 QBE Insurance International Festival of Speed at Sydney Motorsport Park from March 23-26.

The 15-time world champion and 122-time GP winner will be the special guest at the event with his 350 and 500cc MV Agusta race bikes, and other highlights will include:

  • An exclusive appearance of the legendary Laverda V6;
  • Legends' autograph signings;
  • Trade stands;
  • Spectator parade laps;
  • Race and display bikes from Australia, NZ and Europe;
  • A show & shine; and
  • A swap meet.

There will be 50 races on the program, catering for over 400 classic bikes. The event will also double as round one of the Tran-Tasman series.

The last time Ago, now 74, was in Australia was in 2013 when he was the special guest at the International island Classic at Phillip Island.,

Attached is an image of Agostini taken in 2009 by the late Ken Wootton, the former editor of Australian Motorcycle News. It's of Ago, wiping down his championship-winning MV Agusta three-cylinder grand prix machine at the Varano circuit in Italy.

'Woose' was in Varano to watch his good buddy Alan Cathcart test a replica of Ago's four-stroke racebike, one of five built to original casting moulds.

But then the big bombshell: Ago also turned up after having towed his bike from Bergamo through a series of rain squalls.

By this time, Woose was hyperventilating, but he managed to hold his nerve just long enough to get this photo.

Agostini won seven of his eight 500cc world titles on the MV Agusta 500/3, and his last one on a two-stroke Yamaha.

He retired from racing in 1977, but his name will always be synonymous with MV Agusta.
