BMW Motorrad Australia has announced its 2023 BMW R 1250 RS will land in Australian showrooms in the first quarter of 2023, with the mildly updated model boasting Dynamic Traction Control and a new ECO riding mode as standard.
Available in three variants – RS, Sport, and Triple Black – the 2023 BMW R 1250 RS will be priced from $23,020 ride away, and is complemented by a large range of the brand’s ‘Option 719’ parts to allow owners to customise the bike.
The model retains its same essential format, with its 1254cc Boxer flat-twin engine with BMW ShiftCam technology continuing to pump out 136hp (100kW) at 7750rpm and 143Nm at 6250rpm, with the urge transmitted to the rear wheel via a shaft final drive.

The new Dynamic Traction Control system delivers lean-angle sensitive intervention to maintain safe progress. The ECO mode, meanwhile, works in conjunction with the ShiftCam technology, essentially variable valve timing and intake valve lift, to maximise fuel efficiency.
“In ECO mode, the rider is encouraged to ride efficiently with a soft throttle curve and moderate engine torque limitation,” says BMW.
“In ECO mode, the TFT colour display provides an efficiency display in the upper status line. If the rider desires maximum performance – for example when overtaking with a heavy load or riding uphill – the ride mode button can be used to rapidly switch to a different ride mode.”
BMW’s Riding Modes Pro, a factory option that is part of the model’s Dynamic Package, adds custom riding modes to the equation, along with a new engine drag torque control feature that is said to further aid stability “that can occur during coasting or downshifting due to excessive brake slip at the rear wheel”.
The TFT instrumentation carries over, delivering integrated arrow navigation and extensive connectivity, while the model also boasts a USB-A charging port, a 12V power socket, and optional seat heating for both the rider and pillion, the latter offered in conjunction with heated handlebar grips.
New tubular handlebars are now offered as optional equipment too. They’re slightly higher and wider than the standard stub ‘bars to give more relaxed ergonomics.
The base model BMW R 1250 RS (pictured, above) will be priced from $23,020 ride away, while the BMW R 1250 RS Sport will be priced from $28,890 ride away and includes a Comfort Package (keyless ride, chrome-plated header pipe, Design Option silencer, heated grips and tyre pressure monitoring), Dynamic Package (daytime riding light, Gear Shift Assist Pro, Riding Modes Pro and white LED indicators) with adaptive headlight, cruise control and sport silencer.
That leaves the BMW R 1250 RS Triple Black (pictured, above), which will be priced from $27,790 ride away and includes the Comfort Package (keyless ride, chrome-plated header pipe, Design Option silencer, heated grips and tyre pressure monitoring), Dynamic Package (daytime riding light, Gear Shift Assist Pro, Riding Modes Pro and white LED indicators) with seat heating, and Touring Package (navigation preparation, cruise control, centrestand, pannier mounts and luggage grid) with seat heating.
