Ian Macfarlane, the Minister for Industry, Tourism and Resources, did the presentation.
According to the presentation on the night, "If ever an Australian could lay claim to the title 'Mr Motorcycle', it is Stuart Strickland. He has been on the FCAI's motorcycle board for almost 20 years and has contributed greatly to making motorcycling not only safer, but also part of the automotive mainstream.
"Stuart has also been instrumental in the development of the HART rider training schools as well as the Honda Rider's Club of Australia. His exemplary service led to his appointment as Managing Director - one of the few nationals in the Honda world to hold that title."
On receipt of the unusual accolade (only a few such memberships have been given in the history of the organisation), Stuart said he has seen many changes in the market and within industry personnel over the years.
"I have been pleased to note that the motorcycle industry status has risen within the FCAI as it provides the most appropriate 'umbrella' for our industry and has the strongest links to Government.
"Additionally there are many common points of interest between the motorcycle and automotive industries, and that allows us to explore resolutions to many issues.
"Right now, however, there are many contentious issues facing the motorcycle industry in particular. This includes concerns in relation to safety, environment and economics.
"It is important that leaders within our business discipline contribute towards these current and future issues. This includes involvement by motorcycle manufacturers, as well as dealers and after market suppliers."
